During the school holidays, I’ve been doing swim training every day with my coach, Gary Hollywood. Each session lasts for two hours, and it’s really been helping me get faster. I’ve noticed big improvements in all my strokes—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. I’m super excited because when I get back to SwimZone, I’m planning to surprise everyone with how much I’ve improved. We train at the H2O Extreme lane pools, which have finally reopened after being closed for a long time. It’s such an awesome place to swim, and it makes the training even more enjoyable.
One of the coolest things about training is that I get to swim with the fastest twelve-year-old in Wellington! Training alongside someone so fast pushes me to work even harder. I’ve also made some new friends from the squad, which makes the tough sessions a lot more fun. We usually start training around five in the evening and end up swimming a couple of kilometres every night. It’s definitely tough, but I know all the effort will pay off. Right now, my main goal is to keep improving my stamina so I can stay strong through every race.
When I’m not swimming, my dad recently let me play Minecraft Education on his Surface Pro. I don’t have any devices of my own, so it’s been really cool to have something fun to do after training. :)
